Do weddings really need to cost SO MUCH!?
Did you know according to ASIC’s Money Smart the average Australian wedding costs $36,200, some surveys show even more! So we want to share with you some of our hot tips on how to cut unnecessary costs. Keep reading for our Cost Saving Wedding Tips…
Work out what’s important to you both and how you want to spend the budget on your wedding. If you’ve had your eye on an amazing photographer that you want to splash out on, most certainly do it but it just means you may need to cut costs on other items like having a two tiered cake instead of three for an example.

Having your ceremony and reception at the same venue
Here’s an interesting fact, on average about 50% of your wedding budget is allocated on the reception, food & alcohol so why not choose a location where you can have your wedding ceremony as well? This will save you an extra hiring fee not to mention save you organising transport on getting your guests from A to B.
Have a small bridal party
Have you got 6 besties that you want all standing next to you at the altar? I totally understand however the bigger the party, the bigger the bill. Logically that’s 6 x hair, makeup, flowers, boutonnieres, tan, nails, bridesmaid dresses, suits, gifts & accessories that you will have to fork out for, if not at least contribute towards.

By this we mean two things, firstly choose a venue that’s close for you and your guests to save on transport costs / fares. Secondly, choose suppliers that are local! Travelling means more $$. If you choose a supplier that’s based a two hour drive away, they will most likely charge you travel fees which is only fair as someone has to incur the costs.

Choosing your wedding dress
Okay ladies, this might be hard to hear HOWEVER if you have found the perfect dress that you just need to have you could very well find it on either a buy swap sell page or gumtree for literally half the price for the exact same quality you’d buy brand new and will potentially save you thousands of dollars. Choose wisely!

Get hitched on a weekday
Who says weddings have to be on a Saturday? I guarantee if you plan your wedding on a weekday you will not only save money but chances are most of our suppliers will have your wedding date available. I often hear popular suppliers booking out well in advance so instead of having to plan your wedding 2 years in advance to ensure you have all of your favourite vendors why not just get married on thirsty Thursday!
Cut the list
As we said earlier the reception, food & alcohol is roughly 50% of your wedding costs. By cutting down the number of your guests will save you on average $100pp. To make this slightly easier for you why not consider who you’ve been in contact with last 12 months and who know you and your partner best. If you have extended family that you feel obligated to invite but haven’t seen for years, send them a nice card explaining your reasons, I’m sure they’ll understand.

Stock the bar yourself
Some venues will allow you to BYO alcohol, if you are lucky enough to choose the perfect venue that will allow you to do this then I’d suggest buy in bulk! Either online or your local large bottle store, remember to research first!
